Thank you for your interest in registering your web site with Aliweb. You can arrange for ALIWEB to include your index file in its database by following these instructions:

1. Create an index file, in the IAFA format, and place it on your server (using an ftp program or a text editor on your server if you access your web site from remote), preferably in a file called "site.idx" You can use the example at:

Example site.idx file

Simply cut and paste the information for your site replacing the information used in the examples. Most people just use the document format:

Template-Type: DOCUMENT
Title: Title you want Aliweb to display for your listing
URI: / or /path from your root directory to the resource.
Description: Description of your web page here. All additional
                lines must be indented.
Keywords: keywords, seperated, by, commas,
Author-Email: Your email address

The main points to note when writing a site.idx file are:

DOCUMENT or whatever the template type is must be in all upper case.

URI refers to the path from the top directory. So if your site is www.yourname.com then this file would either be just "/" if you want it to look for your index file, or it could be "/directory/file.htm" if you want it to describe another page or directory

Blank lines. There should only be 1 blank line between each record, and no blank lines within the record itself.

The file should only contain resources that are under the administrative control of the person maintaining the index file.

Please refrain from repeating keywords in the keywords field or description field in order to get a more favorably placement in the search results. This slows down the processing for the people using Aliweb.

Next, register this file with ALIWEB, by filling in the registration form at:

Register URL with Aliweb

Your site.idx file must be in your top most directory such as: www.yourname.com/site.idx Your URI tag in your site.idx file will use the first part of the address before the last / as your address. Therefore if you want your link to be to an html file called welcome.html, you would make the site.idx file be:

http://www.sitename.com/site.idx

and the URI tag would be:

URI:/welcome.html

ALIWEB will now regularly retrieve this file, so there is no need for you to notify ALIWEB when you update your index file.

To make sure that you do not have any errors in this file, please go to:

Check file for errors

and use the registration checker. If you see any errors, correct your site.idx file, and then use the registration checker again and continue to repeat the process until no errors are displayed.

If your site.idx file does contain errors, visit the errors and trouble shooting page at:

Trouble Shooting Page

We know that this is a bit more complicated than registering with other search engines, however the rewards are greater as well. You are able to put more detailed information about your web resources, you can update them in Aliweb's database usually within 24 hours, and because the site.idx files reside on the servers, links on Aliweb are usually good because Aliweb will not retrieve a site.idx file from a down site. To remove your information from Aliweb, simply remove your site.idx file from your server or rename it.

Thank you for your interest in Aliweb!
